Program Features Celebrity Show Guests Spinning Wheel on Bally Slot Machine; Company Will Donate ‘Bonus Win’ To Nevada Cancer Institute
LAS VEGAS, March 17, 2010 — Bally Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BYI), a leader in slots, video machines, networked and server-based systems for the global gaming industry and a major supporter of Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI), today announced a new program that it is launching Thurs., March 18 on KVVU FOX5 Las Vegas to generate awareness about NVCI and its mission to reduce the burden of cancer in Nevada.
As part of Bally’s partnership with NVCI announced in 2009, Bally is sponsoring a new “Cash Spin for Charity” program that will air live weekdays at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on FOX5’s MORE celebrity, lifestyle, and entertainment show. Each day, during the MORE broadcasts, a guest on the show will take part in the Cash for Spin Charity segment and spin the virtual wheel on Bally’s award-winning new Cash Spin™ slot machine. Bally will donate whatever amount the wheel lands on to NVCI.
“This is a very exciting new way to elevate our partnership with NVCI and help Nevada Cancer get more exposure in the community about its important mission of providing cancer research, education, early detection, prevention, and high-quality patient care,” said Richard Haddrill, Chief Executive Officer of Bally Technologies. “By incorporating the entertainment value of our spinning-wheel slot machines with celebrity guests, we will be able to raise awareness about a very serious issue for many Nevadans.”
“Nevada Cancer Institute applauds Bally Technologies for thinking of such an innovative way to support the fight against cancer,” said Dr. John C. Ruckdeschel, Director and Chief Executive Officer of NVCI and the Murren Family Distinguished Director’s Chair. “We sincerely appreciate their partnership and efforts to make Nevada a healthier place to live.”
In February 2009, Bally Technologies announced a long-term partnership with NVCI that includes a 100-percent Company match to all employee donations. Since then, Bally and its approximately 1,400 employees in Nevada have held fundraisers and instituted other initiatives to generate financial support for NVCI.
In addition, Bally Technologies adopted NVCI’s Information & Resource Center, where families, patients, and anyone interested in health information can enjoy free access to some of the world’s most progressive materials as well as information on health and wellness, cancer and cancer treatment, coping, grief and loss, survivorship, and inspiration.
“With more than 1,200 employees in Nevada spread across campuses in Las Vegas and Reno, and ongoing recruitment efforts to fill 78 open positions within the state, we take this partnership extremely seriously,” said Gary Kapral, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Bally Technologies. “NVCI and its focus on cancer research and cutting-edge treatment is important to our state and to the health and well-being of our employees, our customers, our neighbors, and friends.”
The Bally Technologies gaming machine that will be initially featured in MORE’s “Cash Spin for Charity” is Cash Spin, the industry’s only slot machine to feature U-Spin™ gesture-control technology that senses both the pressure and speed of a person’s hand gestures as they spin the virtual wheel on the special touch-enabled LCD. Cash Spin is expected to debut in Nevada casinos next month.
